Flagler College Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Uploaded image   For all Microsoft services (email, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.) use Microsoft Authenticator

What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?   When a system attempts to determine that you are who you claim to be, that is referred to as authentication. There are three methods, or factors, by which you can be authenticated.

  1. Something you know, such as a password
  2. Something you have, such as your mobile phone
  3. Something you are, such as your fingerprint

When more factors of authentication are used together to access security-sensitive services, the authentication process is more reliable and the level of assurance of your identity is greater, leading to better security.

MFA provides an extra layer of security

Activating MFA verification enhances protection of your account from hackers. We are used to one layer of security (our password) to protect our accounts. With MFA, hackers would need to not only get through the password layer but would need your phone or other verification method to get into your account.

Phishing schemes are a type of scam in which cybercriminals attempt to gain access to your sensitive data. By sending emails that appear to come from a legitimate source, phishers try to trick you into clicking a link or downloading an attachment.

What to do if you get Phished

Change your Credentials

  • Change your personal passwords
  • Go to SelfService and IMMEDIATELY change your Flagler password.
    • Do not use any previous passwords.
    • Do not include any part of your name or birthday.

Secure your Financial Information

  • If you entered a routing number, credit or debit card number, or any other financial information, contact your bank IMMEDIATELY.
    • Freeze your debit card.
    • Cancel your credit card.
