SAM

A Welcome Statement from the SAM Flagler College Chapter President

Welcome students of Flagler College!

We have the wonderful opportunity to be members of the oldest management club in the country. What started in 1983 as a vision became reality on January 1, 1984 when SAM International Headquarters chartered our SAM chapter. As one of the most accomplished SAM chapters in the country, we have won an unprecedented 9 national management case team championships, numerous outstanding chapter awards, the Outstanding New Chapter in the Nation award, and several outstanding SAM regional and national student awards. The success of our chapter has resulted directly from the dedication and commitment of its members. Through their hard work we continue to give students the opportunity to gain real management experience for their future professions.

This year, we will be taking a different direction. We are having multiple speakers coming to talk to us about motivational, leadership and positive energy that addresses students' unique learning styles, cultivates independent thought, and promotes the building of character, enabling them to contribute to their communities in meaningful and positive ways. This opportunity will allow members to further develop their management and leadership skills through real world experience. We will also have many team building exercises concentrating more in managing events in teams.

SAM is passionate about giving back to the community. We are regular volunteers of Habitat for Humanity, public forums at Flagler College, and the Boys and Girls Club of St. Augustine.  In addition, we are partnering with Take Stock in Children to host another workshop teaching high school student’s business etiquette.

I encourage all undergraduates to join SAM, regardless of major. SAM helps to improve the professional quality of your performance. Whether you dream of managing your own business or just want to gain a competitive edge in the workplace, our SAM chapter can help. This is a great opportunity for everyone to become better leaders and learn how to manage and communicate with others.  I am looking forward to this upcoming year!

Sincerely,

Jazz Maris

A Welcome Statement from the SAM Flagler College Chapter Advisor

Welcome to the oldest continuous business club on campus. SAM was formed in 1983 and chartered by the SAM International Headquarters January 1, 1984. Our charter members included 85 of Flagler College ’s finest students at a time when Flagler College ’s enrollment was quite a bit smaller than the approximately 2700 students today. Over the past years SAM has had many accomplishments – 8 national management case team championships, winners of a number of outstanding chapters in the nation, the outstanding new chapter in the nation, and numerous outstanding SAM regional and national students in the nation awards.

We welcome all members to be part of the SAM legacy by collectively participating in our shared vision and reaching our goals of continuing what SAM stands for "increasing management skills and expertise through participation in programs and services designed to improve the professional quality of your  knowledge, performance, and ability".  SAM caters activities so members gain these necessary management skills needed for success in the workplace.

You are what makes SAM successful.  With your commitment and passion, we will continue what our forefathers established.  Thank you for joining our legacy.  We look forward to an outstanding year and in meeting each one of you. Please feel free to stop by my office and introduce yourself as a proud "SAM" member.  Together we can continue to make this club one that our College can be very proud of, while giving each one of you the opportunity to put your management skills to the test.

Truly,
